a moment of burnt hat

Writer from NJ, 43, living in UK since 1995. I've published seven SF novels and three fantasies, the latter under the pseudonym Valery Leith. Some of them were nominated for awards and translated into various languages, and DREAMING IN SMOKE won the Arthur C. Clarke Award in 1999. My latest SF novel, LIGHTBORN, came out in 2010 in the UK and received nominations for the BSFA and Clarke Awards.

I've got three kids who are now all in primary school and I'm studying for an undergraduate physics degree with the Open University. I also maintain stevemorris's martial arts website www.morrisnoholdsbarred.co.uk and its associated brouhaha, so my time and energy are usually in deficit.

The title of this blog comes from a typo in one of the old comments here by Ian McDonald. He meant to type (vis a vis writing), 'it's that moment of burn that makes it all worthwhile' but instead he wrote, 'it's that moment of burnt hat makes it all worthwhile.' That's about right for me.

Feel free to friend/defriend anytime; I will usually friend people back. My presence here is on-again-off-again. I'm pretty good about reading my friends page when I'm around.

I'm on Twitter as @trishsullivan68.
